Upgrading, Piercing & Ultimate Weapons

+1 to +10 rates and costs, Power Dice, the pity bar, element upgrades, jewelry, piercing, cards and ultimate weapons.

Upgrading in Aerlore uses Power Dice, minerals and Penya, with a visible pity counter. It's the biggest change from the Original, so read this even if you're a veteran.

The short version: nothing ever breaks or loses levels. Every attempt uses one die, some minerals and some Penya, whether it works or not. Each failure makes the next try more likely, and you're guaranteed a success eventually.

Where to upgrade

Go to the blacksmith NPCs in Flarine:

All three share one Upgrade window with tabs: General Upgrade, Element Upgrade and Piercing.

The Upgrade window
The Upgrade window
  1. Drag the item into the Item slot.
  2. Drag in a matching Power Dice (or card, for elements).
  3. The right side shows the success chance, the Penya per attempt and the minerals needed.
  4. Optional: set an Upgrade Goal and the window keeps trying until you reach it, run out of materials or press Stop.

Dice: Power Dice 4 covers upgrades to +1 through +5, Power Dice 6 covers +6 through +10. Power Dice 12 works at any level and gives 1.5× the chance.

On average, taking an item from +0 to +10 costs roughly 94 dice, about 29,000 of each mineral and about 62 million Penya.

The pity bar

After two failures the chance has gone up from 27% to 29.2%
After two failures the chance has gone up from 27% to 29.2%

The window counts your upgrade attempts for that level, and the counter stays on the item. Every failure raises your chance a little, up to about 1.5× the base rate. After a set number of failures in a row, the next attempt can't fail: about 3 divided by the base chance, so about 12 tries at 27% or about 167 at 1.8%. The counter resets when you succeed.

Aerlore vs the Original: no item ever breaks or drops a level, so there are no protection scrolls (Scroll of Protection, SProtect and the like are retired). Rates for +4 and up are the Original's. Material and Penya costs from +4 up are double the usual.

Jewelry (+0 to +20)

Rings, earrings and necklaces use Power Dice 8 (normal) or Power Dice 10 (1.5× chance). They cost no minerals and no Penya.

Success by level: 100, 100, 63, 45, 33, 26, 21, 17, 14, 11, 9, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.7 and 0.1% (for +0 → +1 up to +19 → +20).

Element upgrade (+0 to +20)

One element per item. You need that element's card plus two kinds of mineral and some Penya:

ElementMinerals
FireErons + Guru
WaterKrasec + Guru
ElectricityMineral + Krasec
WindErons + Krasec
EarthMineral + Guru

Success: 100, 100, 92, 70, 53, 40, 30, 23, 17, 13, 10, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2.5, 2, 1.5, 1.2 and 1%. Minerals go from 10 up to 207 per attempt, and Penya from 2,000 up to 500,000.

Piercing and cards

Boboku adds sockets with Power Dice 8 / Low Mighty Dice (normal) or Power Dice 10 / High Mighty Dice (1.5× chance).

ItemMax socketsSuccess per socket
Armour (suit)480%, 50%, 20%, 5%
Weapon / shield1050%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25% … down to 0.1%

Each attempt costs item level × (sockets + 4) × 1,400 Penya. Failures don't hurt the item.

Aerlore vs the Original: the old Moonstone + 100k Penya piercing, which could break, is gone.

Ultimate weapons

Where the materials come from

Every monster can drop Power Dice and minerals. Event monsters can't. Bosses and giants are much more generous:

You also get dice from quests, achievement chests and daily rewards. Catchers in Madrigal are the other big mineral source. See Collecting & Catchers.
